Former South Africa captain Hashim Amla has heaped praise on Rohit Sharma, calling him one of his favourite T20 batters in the world right now. In a recent interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Amla’s admiration for the Indian star stood out, with clips of his comments quickly going viral on social media.

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh calls Virat Kohli the ODI GOAT

When asked to name his top three T20 batters at the moment, Amla spoke with admiration about Rohit’s effortless stroke play. “Rohit is still one of my favorites. I love watching him. Ah, the elegance, man. It’s T20 cricket, but he still has a smoothness in his shots. It’s beautiful to watch him in T20 cricket,” Amla said. The former Proteas opener also mentioned compatriot Heinrich Klaasen but admitted to being short on names when asked to complete his top three, even leaving out Virat Kohli. However, later in the conversation, Amla named Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Rohit Sharma once again to complete his favourite ODI batters, highlighting their consistency and class across formats. The 42-year-old further spoke about the new generation of Indian batters who could follow in the footsteps of players like Kohli and AB de Villiers. After being reminded that he himself topped ODI and Test rankings in 2013, he went on to name the players he thought could succeed him. “We know the Indians are bursting with talent. Shubman Gill is doing so so well… definitely Shubman Gill because he’s doing well in Tests, one-days, and he’s a fantastic T20 player,” Amla said.He also praised Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, adding, “You have Jaiswal – another quality player, probably somebody underrated, KL Rahul we all know what a quality player is and he’s churning the runs out especially in tough conditions.”Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who has stepped away from Tests and T20 internationals, continues to entertain fans off the field.

    Poll

Who do you think is the best T20 batter in the world right now?

The former India skipper recently shared a light-hearted video on Instagram where he played a prank on friends with a “shock pen,” a clip that quickly went viral.Rohit is expected to return to action in India’s upcoming ODI series against South Africa on home soil, with the first ODI scheduled for November 30.
