IND vs SA 2nd Test Live Score: ‘It was uncertain if I’d play Test cricket again, let alone in India’ – Senuran Muthusamy
For Senuran Muthusamy, life has truly come full circle. In 2019, during a forgettable debut series in India where he managed just two wickets in two Tests, the South African all-rounder of Indian descent feared his international career was over, and that he might never play in India again.
Fast forward to 2025, Muthusamy has cracked the subcontinent code. Following a breakthrough series in Pakistan, where he claimed 11 wickets in the first Test and scored 89 not out in the second, he now savours the best day of his career—a game-changing 109 against India, coming in at 201/5.
“My journey’s been unique,” Muthusamy reflected. “Debuting in India in 2019, then going back into the wilderness, it was uncertain if I’d play Test cricket again, let alone in India. Cricket is a journey—you take it one day at a time.”
He credited the support of family, teammates, coaches, and sports scientist Cheryl Calder for helping him reach this point. After his debut, he had to wait four years for another Test appearance, enduring the grind of domestic cricket to earn his way back.
Muthusamy, whose ancestors hail from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, said, “I’ve never been there, though my mum and aunt have visited our extended family. It’s part of my heritage, but a few generations ago.”
He sees himself as a true all-rounder, aiming to contribute with both bat and ball. “I try to add value wherever I can, whether it’s bowling spin or batting,” he said.
On Sunday, he praised his teammates for their contributions. “Kyle Verreynne batted brilliantly against the new ball, and Marco Jansen was sublime when he came in. His T20 experience, power, and timing were a treat to watch. It was an awesome partnership that really set up the innings.”
From a disheartened debutant to a match-defining performer, Muthusamy’s journey highlights perseverance, resilience, and the rewards of hard work.
