The Indian cricket team, despite winning the Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan in the final on September 28 in Dubai, have not yet received the tournament trophy. The silverware remains locked in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) office in Dubai, reports Cricbuzz, following a controversy involving ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).The trophy was taken away from the Dubai International Stadium after the Indian team declined to accept it from Naqvi. The ACC office, located within the ICC Academy complex in Dubai and staffed by two employees, currently holds the trophy under strict instructions from Naqvi that it cannot be moved without his authorisation.
A resolution to this situation was discussed during the ACC Annual General Meeting in Dubai on September 30. The five Test-playing nations under the ACC – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan – are scheduled to meet in early November to address this unresolved matter.The upcoming meeting is set to coincide with the ICC’s quarterly gathering in Dubai from November 4 to 7. However, there are concerns about Naqvi’s attendance at this meeting, as he previously abstained from the ICC Annual Conference in July.Some ACC members believe Naqvi might send a representative instead of attending personally, which could prolong the deadlock. If this occurs, the trophy may remain in the ACC office indefinitely unless the ACC members reach a consensus.The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintains a position to address this situation. When contacted about this matter, BCCI officials indicated they would determine their course of action as the meeting approaches.The core issue stems from Naqvi’s insistence that the Indian team must accept the trophy from him personally, a condition that led to the current situation. This standoff has created an unprecedented situation in international cricket where a tournament winner has not received their trophy.
